A plan to convert four-lane Cascade Avenue into two lanes through the Old North End was put on ice on May 18 when Judge David Gilbert granted a temporary injunction at the request of a handful of residents.
The hold-up will last until the matter goes to trial, within the next eight months, says Stephen Marsh, a member Old North End Owners for Enforcement of Master Plan, Inc., which filed the suit.
The city maintains the plan will calm traffic and encourage cycling. The city will move ahead with similar plans for other streets in that area, like Uintah Street.
Marsh says the city’s legal counsel said the city might appeal the ruling.
