Diabetes type 2 symptoms: Add this 10p a day supplement to your diet to lower blood sugar

Diabetes symptoms can cause serious long-term health problems if left untreated or not treated properly.

Signs of the condition can include peeing more than usual, particularly at night, feeling thirsty all the time, feeling very tired, losing weight without trying to, and blurred vision, according to the NHS.

The key to managing and preventing diabetes is a balanced diet and keeping active.

But nutritionist Dr Josh Axe says ginseng supplements could help lower blood sugar.

On the website, it cites a study done at the Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research in Chicago measured the anti-diabetic and anti-obesity effects of Panax ginseng berry in adult mice.

After five days of ingesting 150 milligrams of ginseng berry extract, the mice had significantly lower fasting blood glucose levels.

Day 12, the glucose tolerance in the mice increased, and overall blood glucose levels decreased by 53 per cent.

The body weight of the mice also decreased as the same dose.

A human study conducted at Northumbria University in the UK also found that Panax ginseng caused a reduction in blood glucose levels one hour after consumption when ingested with glucose.

You could lower your risk of high blood sugar by adding cinnamon to your morning tea, it’s been claimed. 

It works by blocking enzymes called alanines. The enzymes are usually used by the blood to absorb sugar, according to the Dr Axe website.

It reads: “Cinnamon is known to have an anti-diabetic effect

“It helps lower blood sugar levels and also can improve sensitivity to the hormone insulin, which is the vital hormone needed for keeping blood sugar levels balanced.”

If you have diabetes, adding cinnamon sticks to your drinks could help to reduce symptoms, revealed WebMD.

“Plain water is always good, but water infused with fruits and vegetables is more interesting,” it said.

“If you’re not a hot tea drinker, try cold tea with lemon or a cinnamon stick.”

Alternatively, taking cinnamon supplements could still have significant positive effects on blood sugar.

Overall, your diet should contain fewer high-fat, high-sugar foods.

And should try to eat this many fruit and vegetables a day in your diet to avoid fluctuations in blood sugar levels.
